In the days leading up to our engagement, Joe and I had numerous discussions about marriage. We would ask questions, create scenarios, and tell stories of our expectations of marriage and what it meant to God and two that take the vows. One of the major things I stressed before ever taking this ring was for Joe to know I expected Pre-Marital Counseling. No ifs, ands, or buts. Without hesitation, he agreed that it would definitely be the necessary ingredient to provide us with the tools in our “marriage toolbox” to help us sustain and depend on the Lord and not Mama’nim to get us through (Can I get an ‘Amen?!’).
After (literally) a year of trying to get into classes, we are finally able to just sit down one on one with our Reverend (a dear family friend and someone we trust) to counsel Joe and I before we take the plunge. We had our first session this past Sunday and it was amazing!! In just that time, I learned the fundamentals of a Christian-based marriage and all the elements each person’s role entails. We still have a number of classes to go through, but nevertheless, I’m so excited to be going through them with Joe. God couldn’t have given me a more perfect partner for me!
